Custom Shampoo Pump Mistake That Almost Cost $22,000 โ€” A Quality Inspector's Story

A moisturiser pump needs a heavier spring โ€” otherwise the product never makes it up the tube. Nobody talks about this until something fails.

The previous supplier shipped exactly what was ordered: a standard custom shampoo pump. It performed exactly as designed. For shampoo. Their product was roughly three times as viscous. The pump never had a chance.

I still kick myself for not asking more questions on that first phone call. If I'd just said "we can handle it" without asking for the product sample, the client would've received another batch of useless pumps. They would've missed their launch, written off $22,000, and resented us for years.

I'd rather spend 15 minutes explaining the difference between pump types than deal with the fallout of a mismatched order later.

Because an informed customer asks better questions, makes faster decisions, and comes back for the next order. That's the kind of customer I want to work with.
